A distinctive bark inclusion runs around the head and ends in the hollow at the head end.

 

Burl woods are natural gimmicks and occur either in so-called burl bulbs or in whole grained trunks. Measles bulbs are wart-like growths on tree trunks, as you often see them on avenue trees. An accumulation of “dormant” buds or wild growth of hundreds of small branches at the same time.
