Purpleheart, Violet wood is a collective name for various woods of the genus Peltogyne in the family of the Fabaceae. The Peltogyne species, traded as amaranth, are distributed from Mexico through Central America to tropical South America. Peltogyne species provide wood from purple-red to purple in color, hence the German name “violet wood”.
It is heavy in the hand and the surface is smooth and shimmers slightly.
The multiple treatment with hard oil provides solid protection and gives the wood structure depth and plasticity. Due to the complex surface treatment, our mills have a pleasant velvety feel.
